Palm Springs. Just the name conjures up pictures of an oasis carved out of a California desert landscape. It was created as such by Hollywood stars who flocked to the town to escape the madness and gossip that was Los Angeles.
Many stars visited or bought homes here including Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, John and Lionel Barrymore, Leslie Howard, Bing Crosby, Jimmy Durante, Spencer Tracy, John Wayne, Errol Flynn, Robert Wagner, Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope. In 1934, Ralph Bellamy and Charlie Farrell bought a large parcel of land and created the Palm Springs Racquet Club, inviting their fellow Hollywood stars to join them. They did. Today, their names and hundreds of other celebrities are enshrined forever on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
The idealized view in our minds of Palm Springs brings to the forefront Mid-century Modern homes, frozen in time and once occupied by or partied in by a myriad of Hollywood legends. It was also a wonderful place to escape to the drier climate of the American west. It was an elite hideaway, quietly sweeping any scandal under the rug and floating through to the future. I wonder how the founders of this place would feel about the the changes coming to this town. Courtesy of the elected elite. The City Council is not just peering into their own coffers to fund this hellhole of an idea, they are looking in askance to the state of California for more money to discriminate against all Americans. Except the transgender and non-binary ones. This is just the beginning of a UBI (Universal Basic Income) within the state of California. My level of incredulity grows with each new headline. Everyday.
From Biz Pac Review:
“Palm Springs, California has gone extremely woke, with the city that is the desert playground for the rich proposing a program that would guarantee monthly income as high as $900 to transgender and nonbinary residents in the name of fighting discrimination.
On Thursday, the Palm Springs City Council voted to allocate $200,000 from two local nonprofits to begin the gratuitous guilt-assuaging payments to members of the marginalized demographic that live there. California is now making moves to implement a guaranteed income plan on a number of levels in the state with Palm Springs leading the way.
City Council members voted unanimously on Thursday to pay DAP Health and Queer Works to design the program and apply for state funding, which is the first of three phases outlined in a city report to realize the proposed project. The allocated funds will flow to Palm Springs-based Queer Works and DAP Health who will smooth out the wrinkles in the first-of-its-kind pilot guaranteed income program.”

Just in case you were not paying attention. You are welcome. I am speechless, disgusted, outraged and I feel like I want to barf. Anyone else?
