I speak often of the Natural Law, and hubs tells me people have no idea what I mean. So I will let John Galt -- of all characters! -- explain it simply:

“Whatever may be open to disagreement, there is one act of evil that may not, the act that no man may commit against others and no man may sanction or forgive. So long as men desire to live together, no man may initiate—do you hear me? no man may start—the use of physical force against others."

𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒕 is the Natural Law. It is other things, too, but that is its basis.

John Galt's speech is also many things. One of those is an exposition of the Natural Law -- and a take down of our current paradigm. Rand wrote this when it wasn't even close to being as bad as it's become, but she could see it. She knew where the bullshit of her day would lead...and here we are.

"Who is John Galt?"
