Love this, SadieJay. Particularly this revelation: "...those of us who care about our health have become like the hunters and gatherers of old, searching out and gathering or hunting down real food. Our food source today might not have teeth and claws, but it is far more nefarious and deadly. And everywhere. At least back then you could kill the threat coming at you and eat it. Not anymore." Brilliant. Thank you for the laughs and the insights, both!
Thank you for your appreciation. I appreciate it and appreciate you right back.♥ Headed your way soon. We might have to schedule a new friend coffee somewhere in between us.
Very well said. It is all so overwhelming to even go to a grocery store. It turns into an all day affair to read ingredients. So I make it easy - if there’s more than 3 I’m out. Well, mostly anyway.
The part that’s frustrating is I’ve gone to farmers markets and it isn’t any better. Asking the Spanish people there if it’s organic…they either don’t understand you or will say whatever you wanna hear. (Organic? Really? With all the sprays blowing in the wind and the chemtrails being spread throughout our airwaves). Even the English speaking ones have no clue because as it turns out they just purchased all the veggies from the farmer and now are making their living selling it to us at farmers markets - and no, they have no clue what pesticides or chemicals the farmer used. I’ve brought produce home only to have it taste like the smoke out of the tailpipe of the truck they brought it in on. Into the trash went that $50. Ugh 😩
I’m trying to grow my own. It’s way more expensive and depending on where you live (Florida is difficult) it can be challenging. Bugs, insects, disease, lacking nutrient soil, hurricane rains, heat and humidity, tornadoes. 😂 We need our farmers!!! But I have changed my thinking a bit after trying to grow my own and seeing that one single type of pest can demolish your entire crop, or critters come in and eat it all gone on one night! I may be out $200 for my little crop of whatever, but the farmer down the road will be out millions in damages. That’s why they use pesticides and chemicals. Organic methods are available but they are not cheap either. Unless your farming practices were handed down from generation to generation along with the land and education to do it right….we are really all in trouble. Farmers SHOULD have been encouraged and supported hundreds of years ago. I fear the bus has left the station and there ain’t no shoving it back in there. 😔
Looking forward to getting to FL where there is a Detweilers down the road. They are somehow associated with a Yoder, if there are any of those last names near you up there. We have pests here, grasshoppers and stuff. But, when I buy high quality food, as I said, I don’t need nearly as much. Like I said…bless the food when you make it in case you forget when you sit down to eat! UGH.
I think the Amish don’t took so crazy nowadays. And yes…blessing the food!!!! God’s protection!!!! I like what you said about blessing it while I’m making it. Hadn’t even thought of that. Thanks!
Great essay. The lowering of I.Q. is responsible for the existence of the Democrat party and their platform (get money, cheat, steal kill, make every crime legal). I have trouble finding healthy food. I like to avoid chemicals, salt, sugar, and oils. Go into the grocery store sometime with that on your agenda. It's been very difficult in the last few years because the "whole" food in the store looks like restaurant rejects, and there's very little of even that. I tried growing vegetables and learned it's not as easy as it looks.
I have been eating clean for 4 years. I am NOT a gardener or a canner. I always read labels and now have to take glasses with me into a store. I ate 5 things the other day with a total of 10 ingredients. (It is because I ate sourdough bread) but that is my goal and it ain’t easy. But, when I eat well, I find I am satisfied with way less. And..my spellcheck is not working on Substack anywhere, so I might look not careful on some comments or essays (if I don’t put it into Word before I send it out to check my spelling). You are absolutely right. IQ’s in the single digit territory breeds dangerous packs of ijeeits.
We started in 2020, January. Before we knew all this. It is tough finding real food. In Europe and even in South Africa the food tastes SO SO SO much better than here. Try finding some whipping cream that doesn’t have some other bullshit in it!! I consider it a noble quest. Thank you!!
I make my own whipping cream out of HWC that only lists heavy cream and milk in the ingredients. It’s surprisingly quick and easy. If it’s for a desert I’ll sweeten it with a couple drops of vanilla stevia or confectioner’s erythritol. Otherwise it’s fine as is.
When I used to waitress for Macaroni Grill many moons ago, we homemade ALL our whipped cream. Same when I worked for a pie restaurant called Bakers Square back in college. We just poured a couple pints of heavy cream into a mixer bowl and let her rip. Sometimes we added sugar but rarely needed to. Always delicious.
My mom used to say 'if you can't pronounce it, don't eat it' too. Or, if came home from a friend house and asked we could get say, Snowballs or some other chemical-based nonsense, she'd reply, "Oh, that's not food." (With a tone that suggested I should have known that already.)
She was way ahead of her time.
And yes that interview was a genuine must-see, and your humor sprinkled so naturally on top such a maddeningly subject is perfection.

Loved this!!! (Someone just sent me a link to it.) I love your explanation of how the food industry is committing adultery!
I took back control of what my family eats in March of 2022. It wasn’t easy but the payoff to our health has been astounding.

Your mom sounds like someone who was ahead of her time. Smart lady. ;-) Thanks!
