Do you remember me telling you about my friend who lives the life of a cattle rancher’s wife? The 5th generation cattle ranching family whose grazing land burned while FB labeled life-saving posts about the fire as MIS-INFORMATION? In case you missed it, here it is.
The Power of Facebook
There is currently a 150,000++ acre (or so they say) burning not far from our house in Idaho. It is called The Paddock Fire.
My friend, the rancher’s wife, lives the life that one would expect of the wife of a man who runs a shit ton of cattle. And, as they always say, behind every successful rancher is a wife who works in town. She works for a well-known Ag company. She interacts with farmers, growers and ranchers all day.
And she works with dudes who grow onions for a living. The ones who take care of the soil to grow the most expensive crop ever. Yes, she has the facts. I only repeat here with true un-precision. Yes, it is a word, I just made it up. Isn’t that how it works?
These onion farmers will not eat an onion. Because they know how they are grown. She asked them “so you won’t ever eat an onion?” and they answered with “maybe if you take off the top 3 or 4 layers, we might.” To grow these very expensively cheap onions they actually fumigate the shit out of the very soil the onions are grown in.
FUMIGATE: to expose to smoke or fumes, as in disinfecting or exterminating roaches, ants, etc.
fumigant formulations are an optimal choice to create a healthy onion field for a healthy yield. The first 6 to 8 weeks are especially vital for developing root growth in onions. Injecting fumigants into the soil before planting creates a zone of protection against disease and pest, buying time for the developing young plants to yield a healthy and vigorous onion root.
(Yes, but who is going to protect the soil from humans?)
TELONE™ and Chloropicrin: A One-Two Punch for Nematodes and Soilborne Diseases
Chloropicrin
Chloropicrin, also known as PS and nitrochloroform, is a chemical compound currently used as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial, fungicide, herbicide, insecticide, and nematicide. It was used as a poison gas in World War I and allegedly during the Russian Invasion of Ukraine. Its chemical structural formula is Cl₃C−NO₂. Wikipedia
TELONE™ has been used for over 50 years in the agriculture industry, and numerous university studies and field trials back its efficacy.
How TELONE™ Works
TELONE™ is a fumigant that contains the active ingredient 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D). When applied correctly, the 1,3-D penetrates the soil, effectively eliminating soilborne pests, including plant parasitic nematodes. 1,3-D works by disrupting the metabolic processes of soilborne pests, preventing them from reproducing and causing damage to crops.
IF A TELONE SPILL HAPPENS, WHAT DO YOU DO?
INITIAL RESPONSE
EVACUATE THE AREA: Immediately evacuate non-essential personnel from the spill zone. Move upwind of the spill and avoid inhaling vapors or fumes.
INITIATE YOUR EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN: Notify supervisors, company emergency response teams, and nearby workers of the incident. It may be necessary to notify local hazmat response units. Once it is safe to do so, please contact your TELONE™ Specialist.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE): Only trained personnel wearing the appropriate PPE should approach the spill. Depending on the size of the spill, chemical suits and positive-pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) may be required.
CONTROL FIRE HAZARDS: Extinguish all flames, shut off all spark-producing equipment; and only allow persons with spark-proof footwear in the area. Use care not to create sparks with hand tools. Do not allow any smoking.
CONTAINING THE SPILL
STOP THE SOURCE: If it can be done safely, stop the release at the source (close valves, upright cylinders, move vehicles, etc.).
PREVENT SPREAD: Use absorbent materials such as diatomaceous earth, clay, sand or other noncombustible, absorptive material from a spill kit, to contain the chemical. Construct a berm or barrier to prevent the spill from reaching drains, water sources, or sensitive areas.
CLEANUP PROCEDURE
ABSORB THE CHEMICAL: Use absorbent materials like dry soil or a spill containment kit to soak up the spilled product.
COLLECT WASTE: Sweep or shovel the absorbed material into properly labeled, secure containers for safe disposal.
DECONTAMINATE: Clean all surfaces that have come into contact with the chemical using an appropriate cleaning agent recommended in the TELONE™ Storage and Handling Guide or SDS.
PROPER DISPOSAL: Dispose of contaminated materials and absorbents in accordance with local, state, and federal hazardous waste regulations.
REPORTING THE SPILL
DOCUMENT THE INCIDENT: Record details of the spill, including; amount, location, persons and response actions taken. Contact your TELONE™ Specialist for assistance.
NOTIFY AUTHORITIES: If the spill has reached water sources, drains, or the surrounding environment, notify relevant authorities as required by regulations.
AFTER THE SPILL
MEDICAL MONITORING: Monitor any individuals who may have been inadvertently exposed to TELONE™ for symptoms like respiratory irritation, skin irritation, or other health effects. Seek medical attention if necessary.
REVIEW PROCEDURES: After the incident, review your spill response plan. Address any gaps in training, equipment, or procedures to prevent future incidents.

So, if this shit spills, you basically have a haz-mat situation. But, if mixed correctly and sprayed and/or injected into soil and crops, just EAT IT. I literally feel sick after reading that.
Seafood is no better.
Hubs has worked on the Bering Sea for almost 30 years and was also in the USN before that. He will very rarely eat seafood. He just shakes his head at me when I order locally caught Florida shrimp…because he knows. He was on USN aircraft carriers for years and he saw what they did with their waste. And the garbage and pollutants they just threw into the ocean? Just evil. Trust me..if the USA did these terrible things, can you imagine what a less regulated fleet would do to their/our waters? I used to think those “environmentalists” were whacko. Now? Not so much.
Some salmon with your vaccine? Gross. Do not eat farmed fish!
I used to think I was on Team Good Guy. But…the victors write the history. The last 5 years has made me question it all. Every little thing. Sure, there are super villains out there. But, what are we? Are we always righteous and good? No. Nothing ever physically threatened the sovereignty of our actual nation. The elected officials warmongers made us believe everything was a threat and we sent our children to die. But now, we don’t even have to send them out of nation to die, because the mongers are bringing the threats right to our doorstep. Whether it be in your grocery cart or a criminal straight off the wide-open border, make no mistake. Nobody has ‘our’ best interests at heart..but God.
So..don’t forget to bless your food and pray for this nation. We were founded upon God and I don’t believe He ever left willingly, we just allowed Him be kicked out.
I've been looking more into organic foods. Lately I've noticed some veggies and fruits have no flavor at all. Or maybe I am noticing lack of nutrients in these foods.
I just finished reading A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley, which is both a page-turner and an indictment of burgeoning Big Ag as it depicts Iowa in the late 70s. I might have to write a post about it, if only to illustrate YET AGAIN how lies and greed corrupt everything: soil, trust, marriages, families, nations.
Thanks for the onion info... I've been organic for 30 years and counting. It's the only way.
